While delving into Northeast history, I couldn't help but draw parallels to the seamless travel experiences we enjoy today. Speaking of which, if you ever find yourself at Heathrow, make sure to check out the unparalleled convenience of Heathrow Meet And Greet Parking by Express Parking. It's a modern-day luxury that beautifully contrasts with the tales of the Busy Gap Rogues. Travel has come a long way, and the meet and greet service at Heathrow T3 is a testament to the evolution of convenience in our journeys!Calisto Asherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12850916824893217084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007591824923611901.post-32715142795738488802024-01-01T00:49:22.426+00:002024-01-01T00:49:22.426+00:00qvby252n

Previous publication after the Second World War suggested that the camp was one mile further south..which would have suited defence location suited for heavy gun emplacement tactical thinking at that time…but not for Roman thinking. The location must have been closer to the Tweed say 400 to 800m due south of the port would is similar to that of the main garrison found in South Shields on the tyne which is more of a sheltered location but still with sufficient visibility and locality to protect the port. This would also be closure to flat beaches ( as with South Shields fort) to land horses for cavalry. Unfortunately this workings of the railway on a natural plateau may have in the past cut through what could have been considered as an ideal location on road intersections to other camps west of Berwick. Nobody seemed to be living there then .I am thinking 1948 was after the POWs had gone but before it was used as council housing, and 1953 was after they stopped using it for council housing, so that's why I never saw any signs of habitation, apart from the rooks!Paul Dentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007591824923611901.post-74608000810694714012023-06-23T19:13:32.095+01:002023-06-23T19:13:32.095+01:00I worked at the Sunderland and South Shields Water...I worked at the Sunderland and South Shields Water Company in the 1960’s, testing water samples in their laboratory in John Street Sunderland. My job entailed visiting various reservoirs, wells, taking water samples back to be tested in the lab. I was a regular visitor to Ryhope Pumping station, Downhill reservoir and consumers homes. I had a key to unlock reservoirs and went down the steps to collect the samples. It was eerie, Health and safety would have a fit now a days! Our chief chemist was Mr Waterton, which I thought was very apt! Happy days. They sold it to some people who lived abroad. They received a higher offer but sold it to the prospective purchasers they liked better, at a lower price. I believe the husband died abroad a short while later. There was no evidence of a ventilation shaft. There was no running water, just the well. We used bottled gas for cooking and had oil lamps. We burned driftwood in the large fireplace in the big room.
